Lexi
future homeowner

Lexi is a hardworking mother who is building a better life for herself and her daughter. A life filled with learning, laughter, and love. Together, they enjoy family activity nights, trying out new recipes, and spending time at the park. While Lexi loves exploring and gardening, her daughter has a passion for art and enjoys drawing.
Lexi grew up with awareness of Habitat for Humanity. As a child, she had neighbors who were Habitat homeowners and remembers thinking how beautiful and welcoming their home was. Years later, as the cost of housing soared, that memory came back into focus. “I’m cost-burdened in the apartment I rent within a triplex in a not-so-good area,” she says. “It’s unbearably expensive and I worry about continued rent hikes.”
After working in a dental office for three years as a dental hygienist, Lexi made the bold decision to go back to college and pursue her dream of becoming an Expanded Function Dental Auxiliary (EFDA), restoring smiles and improving lives. To accommodate her class schedule, she now works as a home health aide, helping elderly clients with their daily needs.
For Lexi, owning a Habitat home means more than just a roof over their heads. It means stability, security, and the freedom to grow and thrive. “We would finally have a yard where we could play outside, plant a garden, or just enjoy the fresh air,” she says. “It would give us a space to celebrate holidays and create lasting memories—a space that feels truly ours.”
The financial impact is just as meaningful. With a stable, affordable mortgage, Lexi will be able to build equity and plan for the future without worrying about annual rent hikes. “This will make budgeting easier and allow me to start saving—something I can’t do right now.”
When she learned she was accepted into Habitat’s homeownership program, Lexi felt an overwhelming sense of joy and relief. “This is a significant milestone in my life,” she says. “The idea of building my own home alongside community volunteers is incredibly exciting. I’m looking forward to gaining hands-on experience and learning skills that will help me care for our home for years to come.”
