Brad & Maggie
future homeowners

Brad and Maggie have been married for four years and live in Delaware with their young daughter. Since moving to Delaware three years ago, they’ve wanted to be a permanent part of the community. As a family they enjoy taking walks together, watching movies, going to the park, and cooking.

The rented trailer that the family lives in is over 25 years old and has continual problems that need remedied. In addition to being too small for their family, the trailer has leaky doors and windows, poor insulation, and siding that moves with the wind. The couple dream of owning their own home with enough space for their young family and a yard for their daughter to play in.

Brad and Maggie both enjoy their jobs in retail. Brad likes helping and getting to know local customers, while Maggie enjoys setting planograms. Although they both work, Brad and Maggie have found it difficult to earn enough to own their own home in Delaware. “An affordable mortgage would finally allow us to have a long-term plan for the future,” explained Maggie.

Recently, a coworker of Brad’s recommended that they apply to build and purchase their own home through Habitat for Humanity’s homeownership program. After taking the advice of Brad’s coworker and applying, the couple were ecstatic upon learning of their acceptance into Habitat’s homeownership program. “The feeling of weight being lifted from our shoulders and happiness instantly created was overwhelming, not only for us, but for our families as well,” said Maggie.

Brad and Maggie are looking forward to being able to comfortably afford their mortgage, hosting family and friends for cookouts, planting a garden, and putting up a swing set. “We are most excited about the affordability of our future home, which will allow us to save for important things like our daughter’s education and our retirement.”

As part of Habitat’s homeownership program, Brad and Maggie are now working their way toward completing 300 hours of sweat equity. “We are so excited to learn about the responsibilities of homeownership! Our lives are going to completely change, and we couldn’t be more thrilled.”
